Saturday was a fun day for thrift store shopping. Here are just a few of my acquisitions --

I saw an ad for 50 burlap coffee bags for $15.00. We have a large coffee distributor in our hometown and they have an abundance of
burlap bags. Problem is --- they stink!!! I had all sorts of plans for these bags -- framed out in old wood. Made into cute "green" grocery totes. Pillows. Seat covers. I was thinking of tons of cute things to do with these bags. If only they didn't have that funky smell.....

So my husband hung them out on our fence. We figured some fresh air and sunshine would perk them up over time. We didn't even dream we would have rainy days to give the bags a good washing. Now -- they are smelling much better and I'm about to bring them in and start transforming them into something fun.

My grandmother had a wonderful collection of state plates, which I now have. I just never could think of anything cute to do with them and have tried more than a few times to sell them without any luck. I finally just decided to grow the collection, so I'm always on the look-out for a state I don't have yet.

I found these 3 plates - Missouri, Arkansas and California -- at a local thrift shop on Saturday at their half-price sale. I have a "rule" that I don't pay more than $7 for a plate. That makes the hunt a lot more challenging. Well, these three plates cost me a whopping 50 cents each !!! Gotta love that!

And this cute little sugar bowl was a bargain at $4. "Azucar" bowl. I couldn't pass it up.

Garage Sale Finds

I wanted to show you some of my recent garage sale finds.

Above, a sweet little silver jewelry box,

lined with red velvet, it is perfect for

holding my favorite earrings,

my wedding ring when not on my finger,

and my charm bracelet.

I have a three shelf jewelry case,

as you can see --

full of pretties....

and I still wear basically just one pair of earrings,

my wedding ring and

my charm bracelet.

I found the unused copy of My Utmost for His Highest Journal

by Oswald Chambers. It is a beautiful devotional.

Also found the never-been-used "Leather and Lace"

scented candle....smells great !

This is the skeleton of an old lamp shade.

I've been looking for just such a shade for a while now --

I have great plans.

You'll be seeing this again soon....

And this little two-tiered metal tray just had my name

on it, ya know?

I put it in the center of my dining table

with the saucers we use as coasters,

a few forks and spoons

and some long iced tea spoons

for easy table setting.

Under the tray is a piece of a very old

cotton seed sack.

It is so soft and worn, the printing is

off center and faded

and I love it !

I just love these recent garage sale finds.

They have all been incorporated into my home

and

look quite comfortable here,

like they've been here forever.

Soooo, nothing earth-shaking --

just wanted to show you my new finds.

HOSA Sale Saturday !!!!!

Is this THE cutest thing ever ??????? Uhhhhh, that's just a frying pan bottom, Gwyn.

Yes, and this is the frying pan top. Cute, cute, cute !! Looks just like my frying pan, with the little discolored places around the top edges that comes from frying eggs with oil in the pan. Ooops !

And here is some perspective on this adorable little Revere Ware miniature pan. It's tiny ! Just big enough for one egg.

I don't know any history on this replica pan, but I had to have it !

JUNKIN'

JUNKIN' --- Friday was junkin' day with my friend, Haley. We started our day by fueling up with coffee, biscuits and gravy at the Mesquite Bean Cafe, then proceeded to the junk/resale/treasure stores. It's a good thing we had a little breakfast since at 4:30 in the afternoon, we realized we'd completely missed lunch-----------NOT my usual M.O. to miss a meal, so you know I was having a Blast!!!!

Haley was looking for things to finish off the decor in her new house. And she found some fantastic items,including a per-fect!!! chair for her living room! Also some great colorful dishes to hang, several sweet, little lamps to add spots of warmth throughout her house and bunches more great stuff!!

I was looking for something to warm up my kitchen and give it a little life!

As I have added and subtracted in my kitchen, somehow it has just become ....blah! and dull! I have always loved the color of Jadeite, a very collectible and very pricey, type of dishware from the 40s and 50s. Sooooo, I was hoping I might just stumble upon some. But I saw only one small Jadeite bowl in all our searching. However----

I DID find several pieces of this -----

Great color!! Seven Melamine plates for $4.25!!!! The two small green ones are serving as spoon rests by the stovetop....and the pink and gray ones are already in Lily Kate's toy closet....I'm sure she will be serving her famous pink and purple Playdough cookies from them very soon. ALSO found the antique glass oil lamp for $7!! and it matches another one I had. They will look great together on the mantel for a Spring look. Or I may fill them with citronella oil and actually use them on the back porch this summer!

Aren't these CUTE???? Apple-shaped pottery bowls. I've never before seen any like these. I love them!!! And can't wait to serve some apple pie in them. They were on SALE -- woohoo!! --- $10 for the set of 9 bowls.

I also snagged a raffia-wrapped wine bottle for $1. When we were first married we had in the middle of our little dining table, a wine bottle with dripping candles. Yes, I know -- the height of style! Hey --- we were college kids --- we also had black light posters in the bedroom. Anyway, I want to recreate that "centerpiece" look for Italian night when I make lasagna and spaghetti -- ambiance, ya know...... I think it'll be fun!

The little silver-plated sugar bowl was just too sweet and too cute to pass up. Another great find were the embroidered pillowcases with Mr. and Mrs. on them.....too sweet! They are very large, king-size and I might could actually use them. But I'm thinking of making a couple of throw pillows out of them for our bed.

A wonderful time was had!! and I can't wait to do it again very soon! Anyone is welcome to come along next time. I would love, love, love to put together a "junkin' tour" where a whole bunch of us girls could all go together.....I think that would be a blast!!!! We could start small and just hit a few places locally the first time. Then maybe branch out and go on an overnight tour to Fredericksburg/Mason/Kerrville/Comfort area. If you read this and are interested, let me know. It could happen!!!!
